One of recent surveys done with dentists, their most common problem was dealing with Staff/ Team Members. We as dental business owners, need to deal with staff everyday and so must be aware of tips to handle staff issues.
I had a good experience recently of how to build back the focus of a staff member if you see they are loosing focus on their job role. I thought I would share the process and it did work magic. Happy staff member and happy team at the end of the day:
– Schedule an impromptu 30 minute meeting
– Ask questions in a manner to suggest you need help from them
– Make them feel valued and that they are helping you
– List all the job roles they do by asking them what they are, then write them down on a sheet or in a Word document
– Highlight those roles which they do efficiently and leave the ones blank which you feel they have a loss of focus
– Give them a timeline to go back to those roles and suggest if they need help they can ask for help
– Ask for a report and show them what difference they can make to the team by accomplishing these roles and how much value they can bring back to everyone
The staff member is happy that she is doing well in most of it and also that the lost roles are back again on her plate to achieve without being told off !
Happy ending.
Best wishes
