The Best Decision I Have Ever Made – Invested in My Team!
Maintaining a disciplined day for learning and training is one of the best things you can do for your practice if you plan to grow to the next level.
I realized this when I completed 10 years in practice and found myself pretty much where I started .
While there had been a lot of time spent at the clinic, many treatments done, people had come and gone but what did it all amount to ??
I wasn’t so sure !
◦ I still had the problems that I did
◦ I still had to be there all the time,
◦ Things dropped the minute I left and
◦ My staff was just plain dependent on me !
As humans and especially “doctors” we seek progress as a means for our satisfaction!
I realized after a decade that if I went on like this I would look back at my life 30 years later and be where I started, probably just round in circles instead of up the curve !
The hardest decision was to block Thursdays for all things team related.
Imagine a whole day of your week gone just disappeared from your calendar??
Can you sustain that kind of loss in your practice ?
We are never conditioned to take these bold steps or take lateral out of the box decisions that beat convention.
But the minute I took this bold step the results have been exponential 18 months from that point I’m here training people and telling the world what’s worked for me .
Here are some bite sized nuggets on How you can do it too …
1.Start by blocking an hour of learning with the team and select a topic of learning
2.You and your team must select articles blogs videos and topics of interest whenever they come your way and collect it in a common place so you can refer when you learn
3.If you are enrolled in an online program then designate that time to answer your teams questions and watch the specifically difficult parts.
4. Gradually this time may increase to personal mentoring for your staff one on one if and where needed remember the key here is to remember that time is an investment and you training them is increasing their productivity, loyalty and motivation .
You must make the time to water their talents so they eventually bloom. It doesn’t have to be Thursdays ( although you have to admit team training Thursdays has a ring to it ) but pick any day Block and hour that’s all it takes and see the results and increase your commitment where needed.
I started with an hour and I’m up to a full 10 hour working day ensuring that I’m solving issues, training ,role playing and even improving systems weekly.
If you still think this is not you then have someone come and train your staff or outsource it online. The need has to be met but necessarily by you !
The ability to actively solve problems and watch your practice improve -That to me is PROGRESS and I wish it upon you too 🙂
